Scholarships

Scholarships of up to $1,000 each are available for member library staff to attend workshops, webinars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.

Please note:

• If the scholarship recipient cannot attend the training for any reason, including the cancellation of an event due to the pandemic, PLAN will not reimburse the recipient or their library for any expenses incurred. Instead, recipients are encouraged to book refundable travel or purchase travel insurance.
• Libraries who have professional development funding available are encouraged to use their own funding before approaching PLAN.
• A limited number of scholarships are available for each major library conference.
• Scholarship applicants must be an employee of a PLAN member library; both part-time and full-time employees are eligible.
• Scholarships are awarded to a library, not a person, and must be used while the recipient is employed at the library.

If you are interested in training that is not listed above, please submit your application at least 8 weeks prior to the training.

Factors that are considered in awarding scholarships include:

• Availability of funding
• Suitability of training to support librarianship
• Distribution of available scholarship funding among as many PLAN members as possible

Other Notes:

• No PLAN member organization may receive more than five PLAN scholarships in each fiscal year (exceptions may be made at the discretion of PLAN staff depending on funds available and specific training needs).
• Scholarship recipients will receive a lump sum payment after they complete the training event. PLAN does not require receipts for scholarship payment requests, but does require a signed Certificate of Attendance and Request for Payment before payment will be made.
• Scholarship recipients must complete the online training survey before payment will be made.
